Gift Idea: A Trio of Tasty Truffles


For sheer snacking pleasure, nothing quite matches the melt-in-your-mouth tastiness of truffles. These rich, bite-sized confections are popular treats, so it’s no surprise that people often buy them as gifts, especially around the holidays.

Now’s a perfect time to try your hand at these fall- and winter-themed versions! The homemade goodness of the apple pie, peppermint, and snickerdoodle flavors is sure to wow, whether you share them at home with your family, unveil them at parties, or make them as gifts for loved ones.

Apple Pie Truffles

One bite of these treats—filled with the flavors of vanilla cookies, apple, and cinnamon—and your friends and family will be in apple pie paradise!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Golden OREOS®
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup cinnamon applesauce
  • 16 ounces white chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Caramel topping, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Put the cookies in a food processor, and pulse until they are fine crumbs; pour the crumbs in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the cream cheese to the cookie crumbs, and mix thoroughly by hand with a spoon or a spatula until completely combined. Fold in the applesauce, and combine until smooth and a bit moist.
  3. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper; chill for 30-60 minutes.
  4. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat on high for 1 minute. Stir, and then heat for 30 seconds; repeat until chocolate is melted. Add in the cinnamon, and stir.
  5. Use a fork to carefully dip each truffle in the chocolate until it’s completely covered, and let the excess drip off. Place it back on the cookie sheet, and garnish before the chocolate sets. Repeat with all truffles.

Peppermint Truffles

The mouthwatering combination of mint and dark chocolate is sure to please the chocoholic inside anyone who gets this decadent treat!

Ingredients:

  • 2¼ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 2 tablespoons cream
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate chips
  • Peppermint candies, crushed, for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, butter, peppermint extract, and cream. Beat with a paddle attachment until mixture comes together.
  2. Turn the mixer to high, and combine until dough is stiff. (Note: If it’s sticky to the touch, add some more powdered sugar, a little at a time, until the stickiness is gone.)
  3. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper; chill for 30-60 minutes.
  4. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat on high for 1 minute. Stir, and then heat for 30 seconds; repeat until chocolate is melted. Add in the cinnamon, and stir.

Snickerdoodle Cookie Dough Truffles

A white chocolate shell enrobes a creamy center bursting with cinnamon and cookie dough flavors that will please any palate!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1⅛ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 8 ounces white chocolate chips
  • Cinnamon-sugar mixture, for garnishing

Instructions:

  1. Combine the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add the cinnamon and the salt, and mix again.
  2. Add the flour, and mix thoroughly until everything is well blended. Mix in the milk until the dough is stiff. (Note: If the dough is too stiff, try another teaspoon of milk in the mix.)
  3. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper; chill for 30-60 minutes.
  4. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat on high for 1 minute. Stir, and then heat for 30 seconds; repeat until chocolate is melted. Add in the cinnamon, and stir.
