Fan Madness for the NCAA Basketball Tournament
Tis’ the season of basketball, excited fans, and brackets galore. The NCAA College Basketball Tournament brings together fans from across the nation cheering and chanting for their team of choice. Which team, though, packs the loudest, most enthusiastic crowd?
Kansas Jayhawks
If you know anything about the University of Kansas, the “Rock Chalk, Jayhawk” chant may ring a bell. A withstanding tradition that can be heard wide and far from Allen Fieldhouse on game day—this chant signifies when the team is doing well. The Jayhawks are also ranked number five in AP’s top 100 teams of all time, making for an even more devoted fanbase that spans generations.
Duke Blue Devils
With the most followed college sports social media account (over one million followers on Twitter), Duke University’s basketball team’s following gains more and more loyal fans every season. Since the 1980s, the student section has been coined the “Cameron Crazies”, and they certainly live up to this self-proclaimed nickname.
Kentucky Wildcats
Many attribute Kentucky’s devoted basketball following to their lack of a winning football team, but loyalty to the Wildcats has a lot more to do with both the dedicated spirit of the south and their fair share of successes (eight National Championship wins to their name). Rupp Arena also packs over 23,000 fans, making for one loud and exciting game.
Michigan State Spartans
Have you ever been so dedicated to something that you camp out overnight? Spartans fans sure know the feeling. Known for their dedication to scoring those lower bowl seats (the best seating for any March game), camping out is deemed a necessity for a true devotee. They’re also currently experiencing an impressive winning streak, so keep them on your radar.
Villanova Wildcats
A Big East favorite after winning the title two years ago, the Villanova Wildcats have a lot of people rooting for them all across the country. A smaller school compared to those above—the Wildcats aren’t to be ruled out. The Greater Philadelphia area is known for its loyal fans, and this basketball team is no exception.
If you’re unsure of who to root for this championship season, consider hopping on the bandwagon of one of the above teams. Your bracket will thank you!
