A city that’s steeped in history and brimming with tasty food, Philadelphia is calling your name this spring. If it’s your first time visiting the City of Brotherly Love and you’re unsure of what to do, or simply feeling overwhelmed with options, here are the must-do things for your first trip to this city.
See the Liberty Bell
Visiting this symbol of freedom is something you simply must do while in Philly. Located in Center City on Market Street, you can’t miss the crowds of people waiting to see this important historic landmark.
Chow down on a cheesesteak
Ask any city native, and you’ll hear endless opinions on where to go for the best, most authentic Philly cheesesteak. Is it Tony Luke’s, a South Philadelphia staple? Or Pat’s King of Steaks, which has been in operation since 1930 and is still run by the original family? Maybe it’s Pat’s fierecest competitor, Geno’s (right across the street). And you can’t forget about Campo’s, Sonny’s, Jim’s Steaks, and, let’s face it, the dozens of other mom and pop shops across the city that serve up some cheesy goodness. No matter where you choose, you’re in for a culinary treat.
Go to the art museum
Museums aren’t everybody’s favorite activity when visiting new cities, but in Philadelphia, you simply can’t skip out on the Philadelphia Museum of Art, located on the Ben Franklin Parkway. And if you don’t want to go in, at least snap a photo or two of you and your posse running the Rocky steps and finishing it off with a leap in the air.
Feast in Reading Terminal Market
If a cheesesteak didn’t fill you up (or even if it did) head to Reading Terminal Market: a farmers’ market paradise that has something for any palate. If you don’t want to eat, there are nearly 100 merchants selling artisan goods and other various products that you can save for later.
Visit the love statue
Another Philly staple, just a few minutes from Love Park stands the love statue, which is a symbol of brotherly love if there ever was one. Nothing screams “I was in Philadelphia” quite like an Instagram shot of you and your loved ones cheesin’ in front of this landmark.
There are countless other things to do in this charming city, but hit these spots and you’ll walk away with a full stomach and fuller heart.
