Outshine the Competition at the Next Bake Sale with Easy-to-Assemble Candy Sushi

We bet you’ve never seen anything like this at a bake sale before! This version of sushi—made entirely out of candy and Rice Krispies treats—will surely be a hit with kids and adults alike. No chopsticks needed!

  1. Following your favorite recipe, make a batch of Rice Krispies treats in a large rimmed baking pan. You will want to make the treats thin so that they are easy to work with. We recommend lining your baking pan with parchment paper before adding your Rice Krispies mixture so you can easily peel the treats out of the pan after the they cool.
  2. While the Rice Krispies Treats cool, gather the rest of your ingredients to create the three different sushi variations. You will need about 1 cup crushed oreos, 1/2 cup chopped peach rings, about 10 fish gummy candies, 2 fruit roll-ups, and about 10 gummy worms.
  3. Transfer the cooled Rice Krispies Treats onto your workstation, and carefully divide it into thirds. This will become the base for the three sushi variations—Nigiri, Maki, and Uramaki.
  4. For the first section, use a 2-inch circle cookie cutter to punch out large circles. For the second section, use a 1-inch circle cookie cutter to punch out small circles. For the remaining section, use a knife to cut out long rectangle strips, roughly four inches wide.
  5. To assemble the Nigiri, you will use the large Rice Krispies Treats circles as the base. Begin by using your fingers to mold each of the larger circles into an oval shape, and set aside on a plate. Using a pizza cutter, cut the Fruit Roll-Ups into thin strips. Then simply top each Rice Krispies oval with a colorful gummy fish, and wrap the Fruit Roll-Ups strips around the center of each piece, covering both the fish and the rice krispie treat.
  6. To assemble the Maki, you’ll use the smallest of your Rice Krispies circles. Begin by rolling the edges of the Rice Krispies Treats in crushed OREOs, covering the sides completely. This step works best when treats are still warm and slightly sticky. However, you can also dip the treats in melted marshmallows before rolling in the crushed cookie. Then top each Rice Krispies circle with chopped pieces candy of your choice. We chose peach rings.
  7. To assemble the Uramaki, you’ll use the last section of the Rice Krispies Treats. Lay the Rice Krispies rectangle on your plate, and place a few gummy worms in a single layer along the length of one edge. Roll the edge of the Rice Krispies Treat over, just enough to cover the gummy worms. Once the gummy worms are completely wrapped in the Rice Krispies Treat, use a knife to cut away the excess. Continue this process as necessary until all of the Rice Krispies are used. Then carefully chop the log into half-inch pieces.
  8. Place each of your rolls together onto one platter for a colorful candy sushi plate, and wait for awe and amazement from both kids and parents.
