Classic Versus Eclectic Home Styles

There are various approaches to designing your interior space—it’s time to breakdown the styles so you can see what kind is best for your home.

What does an eclectic approach entail?

All about the textures

Varying textures throughout the home is a key aspect of going with an eclectic design style. Cohesiveness is still important, but this can be achieved while using different textures—metals, wood, various fabrics, etc. Just be sure to repeat a couple kinds throughout the home to keep the style consistent.

Mix it up

An eclectic space means the more charisma, the better. This can be displayed in numerous ways, but usually results in art pieces, antiques, and different collectables on display that add a touch of character that makes this style what it is. Reflecting different time periods and styles throughout the design are all fair game.

With all of these different mixtures of styles and pieces, there should be one thing that brings them all together. Draw the eye to something that brings consistency to an eclectic space.

What does a classic approach mean?

Sticking to traditional pieces

A classic style is all about keeping things simple and clean. Emphasis is placed on lines, with there being limited amounts of varying textures and patterns. Decor pieces are more muted and blend in with the rest of the color scheme.

Curtains with character

In many traditional homes, the curtains are usually an important element, as they elongate the room and can instantly make the color scheme more pronounced.

Dine in style

For those who have a dining room, adopting a traditional interior style is a way to really show it off. Gold, florals, or lighting fixtures can make it a livable, yet stylishly classic dining space.

Between these two styles, there’s no shortage of what you can do to your home. These are just some of the ways that you can make your space either eclectic or classic.
