Best Mother’s Day Surprises

Every mom deserves the best, (not just on Mother’s Day), but it can be hard to come up with new ways to celebrate her special day from year to year. If you think Mom would enjoy a break from the traditional, give one of these new ideas a try!

Family on a picnic next to tree with swing

Have a picnic.
Bringing Mom a delicious breakfast in bed is a common Mother’s Day ritual, and, while there’s nothing wrong with letting her catch up on her beauty sleep, consider taking that brunch outdoors. Being in May, Mother’s Day weather tends to fair on the pleasantly warm and sunny side, so pack a basket with picnic essentials, grab a blanket, and enjoy your meal alfresco.

Little girl cutting paper

Make a pretty craft together.
Instead of spending time trying to make the perfect gift all by yourself, let Mom join in on the fun. Brainstorm a fun craft, like this personalized coffee mug. She’ll love getting to spend a little more quality time with you, and you’ll love the helping hand.

Family baking together

Set up a friendly family contest.
If this isn’t something your family regularly does, it can be even more fun, but holding a lighthearted game of charades, a baking contest, or, if you’re feeling crafty, a tie-dyeing competition, is a great way to bring everyone into the fun.

Woman wearing face mask

Open a home spa.
Transform a room of your house into a personal spa, if only just for the day. Fill a small tub with warm water and a few drops of relaxing essential oils, line a table with everything needed for a manicure and pedicure, and prepare a refreshing beverage—all Mom has to do is put her feet up and enjoy.

Mother with daughter on her back

Take time to do nothing.
There is no better gift for Mom on Mother’s Day then giving her a little break from everyday hassles. No matter what, be sure that at the end of the day you leave plenty of time to hang out on the couch and enjoy a good movie, or whatever she prefers. She’ll be so grateful for the downtime.
