She Sheds are the Modern Woman’s Escape

For a long time, men claimed their space for fun in a man cave. Women everywhere are taking matters into their own hands by creating their own oasis, too. The “she shed” is a home design trend where women have their own alternative to a man cave.

Why a shed?

A shed is typically used for storage in a backyard, somewhere separate from the house. Sheds are easy to build, modify, and are most importantly secluded. Women have started using sheds as their own spaces because it gives them a space to call their own.

What is inside a she shed?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all she shed. They’re as unique as every woman who uses one. Amazon even sells a book about the different types of she sheds for design and use inspiration. From creative studio spaces, home offices, and fitness areas, it depends on the hobbies and interests of each woman. Some prefer to make it a space to bring friends, while others want a retreat for themselves.

How expensive is it to get my own she shed?

Of course, companies have jumped on the opportunity to provide she shed building and customization services. Places like StudioShed offer kits to build your dream she shed, complete with a website full of design inspiration. The answer is that it will probably cost a few thousand dollars, depending on what material you use and if you have someone build it for you. In addition, you may want heating and/or air conditioning depending on the season of use, so that’s another cost to consider.

If you feel like you need your own space away from life inside the house, but don’t want to travel somewhere, consider buying and building a she shed. Devote space for yourself, your friends, and your interests.
