A Coastal Winter Wonderland
Outdoor Christmas light displays have been a longstanding holiday tradition for decades. Originally stemming from the trend of string lights on an indoor Christmas tree, the multicolored outdoor displays evoke a sense of holiday spirit and even a little neighborly competition.
During the month of December, there’s nothing better than piling in the car to ‘ooh and ahh’ at the displays that shine the brightest. But if you’re in search of a truly magical experience in the form of a relaxing weekend getaway, head to the small coastal town of Ocean City, Maryland, to experience the magical Winterfest of Lights.
What began in 1991 as a small display has magnified into an award-winning holiday wonderland. As visitors enter Northside Park on 125th Street, they hop aboard the Winterfest Express to take a ride through the 58 acres of true Christmas spirit. During the one-mile journey, visitors will encounter over one million holiday lights, hundreds of animated displays, and a spectacular 50-foot Christmas tree.
There’s no reason for visitors to be sad once the Winterfest Express comes to a halt. In fact, there’s a pavilion full of fun just ahead! Winterplace Village offers visitors a place to warm up—with a decadent cup of hot chocolate—as they wait in line to tell Santa Claus their holiday wish list.
All in all, the Winterfest of Lights leaves visitors with memories that will sparkle and shine well past the holiday season.
