The winter can be as harsh on our minds as it is on our bodies, and by the time the end of February comes around, we’re all ready for a little break from the monotony. The good news is there are plenty of ways to get away, even just for the weekend.

We’ve highlighted our favorite weekend day trips from each region across the US so you can plan your very own relaxing mini-vacation.

Pendleton Wool Mill

Northwest
The Northwest is rich in natural wonders, from the San Francisco Bay in California to the rainforests of Washington state. But if you’re looking for a relaxing day trip, consider paying a visit to Pendleton Woolen Mills. This mill has been operating for more than one hundred years in Pendleton, Oregon, making blankets, jackets, and other fleece goods in the same tradition, and tours are available year-round at both the Pendleton and Washougal locations.

Southwest
When you think of the American Southwest, a portrait of an arid desert landscape likely comes to mind. However, there is actually plenty of beautiful, lush greenery and wildlife in this part of the country—you just have to know where to look. One such place, Greer, Arizona, boasts the Hidden Meadow Ranch, a quaint, woodsy oasis full of relaxation, or, if you’re interested, lively outdoor activities.

Bismark, Nort Dakota Fountain

Midwest
It seems unfair to group every state from the west coast to the east coast together as the “American Midwest,” especially when there is such a wide variety of diverse adventures to be had in these parts. But if wide open prairies combined with an exciting nightlife is what you’re searching for, Bismark, North Dakota is a one stop shop. A bustling restaurant business, a plethora of wineries, and plenty of outdoor adventure define North Dakota’s exciting potential.

Philly outer area

Northeast
Like the Midwest, the Northeastern part of the US offers such a wide variety of adventures to be had and cultures to experience—but it’s important not to overlook all of the incredible history this part of the country has to offer. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is, perhaps, at the center of this. With countless tours and historically significant monuments to explore, your day will be packed with fascinating tidbits from the birthplace of America.

Georgia St. Simons Lighthouse

Southeast
Florida may be the sunshine state, but its cousin—Georgia—gets plenty of beautiful sunshine and warmth as well. Pay a visit to one of the state’s most undisturbed, gorgeous islands, St. Simons, and you certainly won’t regret it. Adorable shops with unique finds, incredible beaches, and traditional southern-style cooking all make this haven feel like a home away from home.
