Oftentimes, when we think of romantic getaways, white sand and aqua blue water comes to mind. However, with these five locations, you won’t have to leave the Continental US to find beauty, relaxation, and romance this Valentine’s Day.

Beaufort, North Carolina  
As one of the oldest towns in North Carolina, this coastal community has a lot to offer. From a quaint downtown to a boardwalk, there’s something for every couple. Stay at one of its many stately old homes that have transformed into B&Bs (like the Pecan Tree Inn), and enjoy Southern comfort food at Clawson’s 1905 Restaurant. If you’re feeling adventurous, hop on a boat for a quick trip to the Rachel Carson Reserve to visit Beaufort’s wild horses.

St. Augustine, Florida
Another historical gem. Founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously settled city in the United States. Not only is it rich in history, it’s also rich in beauty. From brick-lined streets to horse-drawn carriages, the city is dripping in European flair. After taking a narrated trolley tour throughout the city, recharge at the St. George Inn which is located in the heart of the Old Town district.

The Hamptons are known for their luxury, and Sag Harbor certainly doesn’t disappoint. There’s a good chance that you’ll encounter a celeb during your stay. When you aren’t name-dropping, take a stroll down Main Street where you’ll encounter a weathered windmill and backdrop of boats in the harbor—a true New England vision. Enjoy life on the water while staying at Baron’s Cove, and chow down on some delicious seafood at the Dockside Bar & Grill.

Forget wine, this waterfront town woos craft beer lovers. What was once the biggest beer producer in America, is now home to charming local breweries like Portsmouth Brewery and Smuttynose. When you need a break from the brew, visit the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard which was established in 1800 as the country’s first Naval shipyard. Don’t forget to refuel with a lobster roll at BG’s Boat House Restaurant & Marina!

There aren’t many things more romantic than a vineyard, and fortunately, this town is situated amongst various wineries. After you’re done sipping, take a stroll through its historic town plaza that is reminiscent of the town’s Mexican colonial past. Stay at the Inn at Sonoma, which is conveniently located just two blocks from the plaza, and offers luxurious guestrooms. Once you’ve worked up an appetize, head over to Tortilleria Jalisco for authentic Mexican grub.
