Cake Frosting For Beginners
Baking can be an intimidating task, and especially for beginners. But it’s important to remember that it’s really a science, and so by following tips and basic instructions, you, too, can make wonderful creations you’ll be proud to display!
Cake frosting tips:
- Always cut the rounded top off your cake.
- Don’t forget to dirty ice! (This is just a thin layer of icing to collect the crumbs). Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes before adding another layer of icing.
- Get your tools warm before you work with them. Cold tools will lead to messy icing and the cake tearing. Putting words on your cake?
- Trace your design out first with a toothpick, and then go over the lines with colored frosting or gel.
Waves:
Run the back of a spoon the length of the cake in a repeating pattern.
Rose:
Move a piping bag in a circle to form overlapping swirls from the outside, in.
Home-style:
With the back of a spoon, run over the icing in a swirled pattern until the appearance is rough and edgy.
Basket:
Use a fork to make short lines in opposite directions across the cake.
