One of the wonderful benefits of gardening is that your creative possibilities are as open as your imagination. So why settle for an ordinary planter when you can create one with real character? In just minutes, you can transform an old book into a one-of-a-kind garden.

Directions:

1. Open your book to about the ¾ point. You will put your garden in the thicker (left-hand) side so that you have enough room for your soil and plants.
2. Measure the space where you would like the garden to be placed, and cut out the square with the box cutter. Remove as many pages as you can. You will need to repeat this step until your garden space is about 1 inch deep.
3. Flip the first cut page from the left side over to the right side of the book. Place a sheet of plastic wrap into the hole on the left side so it acts as a liner, and make sure it fills all four corners of the hole. Then cut the plastic wrap approximately 1/2-inch around all four sides of the hole and tape it down completely around.
4. Flip the first cut page back over to the left side so that it hides the taped plastic wrap edge. If the page wants to flip up, you can use some tape to secure it.
5. Place a small amount of potting soil in as the base of your garden. Add your succulents. When you are happy with the plant layout, add the moss and rocks.
6. Your garden is complete!

Tip: Succulents do not require much water, but when you do water them, try to avoid getting water on the paper.
