Pre-Dawn’s Early Lights
The Independence Day party doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down. These creative, red, white, and blue string lights are a great way to light-up the night at your Fourth of July celebration!
Materials
Directions:
- Inflate the balloons until they are almost full, (circular in shape), then rub petroleum jelly on them.
- In a shallow pan or bowl, combine two parts glue for every one-part water.
- Carefully wrap a piece of yarn around your fingers in a loop several times, and soak the loop in the glue mixture.
- Tie one end of the yarn loosely around the knot at the top of the balloon, then start winding the yarn around the balloon in different directions, leaving gaps between the strings. When you reach the end of the loop, tuck the end under another piece of yarn, and rub the entire surface with more of the glue mixture. Repeat with the other balloons.
- Hang each yarn ball to dry, placing a drop cloth beneath them to catch any excess. Allow to drip-dry for 48 hours.
- Pop the balloons inside, and remove them from the yarn balls. If any glue remains, remove it with a toothpick. Insert your string lights, and secure with a piece of wire.
