Tips For Going Green With Pets
Owning a pet may not be the first thing that comes to mind when trying to lead a more eco-friendly lifestyle, but these simple tips are sure to lessen your carbon footprint (or paw print)!
Organic foods
Living more sustainably as a pet owner can start with the food you’re feeding your pet. Feeding your pets organic, naturally sourced food may reduce the amount of chemicals and preservatives they consume. You can also consider making homemade treats so you know exactly what your pet is consuming.*
Use eco-friendly litter
Many cat litters contain bentonite clay, the mining of which can be damaging to the environment. Clay litter is also dusty and viewed by some as a potential health hazard. Greener alternatives include litter made from recycled newspaper, wood shavings, or other nontoxic materials.
Buy sustainable toys
While they may be more expensive than your average squeaky toy, those made from recycled materials are better for the environment—and for your four-legged friend. You can also try making your own toys with animal-safe household items you no longer use!
*Always consult with your vet before changing any aspect of your pet’s diet.
