America’s Best Roadside Attractions
The great American road trip is a must-do for summer, and it’s one of the best ways to see all of the historical sites, national parks, and natural wonders that our beautiful country has to offer. From the cute and charming to the quirky and downright strange, these popular roadside attractions offer something for the whole family!

Wigwam Motel- Holbrook, AZ
Located on the National Register of Historic Places, two of the last three surviving Wigwam Motels are located in Holbrook, Arizona along Route 66. These tee-pee-shaped hotels are a must see if you’re traveling near Route 66.

Foamhenge- Natural Bridge, VA
Foamhenge is a full-size replica of Stonehenge made entirely out of styrofoam. It’s was previously located in Natural Bridge, Virginia, but has been relocated to Fairfax County, Virginia as of early 2017.

The Haines Shoe House- Hallam, PA
This shoe-shaped house in Hallam, Pennsylvania, along the Lincoln Highway, is modeled after a work boot and was built by shoe salesman Mahlon Haines in 1948 as a form of advertisement.

Wall Drug- Wall, SD
Encompassing 76,000 square feet, Wall Drug is a popular roadside destination featuring everything from eateries to a gift shop and drugstore, which started as an idea to provide free ice water to travelers.

Gatorland- Orlando, FL
A 110-acre theme park and wildlife preserve located along South Orange Blossom Trail south of Orlando, Gatorland was founded in 1949 by Owen Godwin on former cattle land. It has been privately owned by his family since then.

World’s Largest Basket- Newark, OH
Literally the world’s largest basket, this roadside attraction was built as the seven-story corporate headquarters of the Longaberger Basket Company. It’s a great photo-op if you’re near the area.

Chandelier Drive-thru Tree- Leggett, CA
Located in the Northern California Redwoods near Leggett, the Chandelier tree is a long-running attraction featuring a 315-ft. Coastal Redwood with a large opening for cars to drive through. Yes, you can literally drive through the tree!

South of the Border- Hamer, SC
A trademark of southern road trips for over 50 years, South of the Border is a Mexican-themed attraction featuring a reptile lagoon, a 200-ft tall sombrero tower, numerous shops and eateries, and much more.
