The Best U-Pick Fruit Farms to Take Your Family to This Summer
Getting to pick your own fruit is an amazing experience. Not only are you getting the opportunity to see where your food comes from, you can sample some sweet berries or crunchy apples along the way, and spend a day waltzing the beautiful grounds of an orchard.
While there are plenty of farms that offer u-pick opportunities nowadays, these places are some of the best around—for their variety, natural beauty, and family-friendly attractions!
Villa del Sol, Leona Valley, CA
Cherry season may be short, but at this Southern California farm, visitors can stock up on cherries to refrigerate or freeze to enjoy in the months long after the season is over. Kids will have a blast sampling the more than 5 varieties of sweet cherries the farm has to offer, and afterward, you can enjoy a picnic at nearby Marie Kerr park.
Hallock’s U-Pick Farm, New Egypt, NJ
Since 1949, this New Jersey farm has opened its fields to families for both fruit and vegetable picking. From mid-May through fall, guests have their pick of a number of fresh produce—beans, cucumbers, and tomatoes are abundant from June into the fall, and fresh herbs like basil, dill, and cilantro are available later in the summer.
Southern Belle Farm, McDonough, GA
Georgia is known for its delicious peaches, and at this u-pick farm just 40 minutes outside of Atlanta, visitors can take their pick from ten different varieties, which begin their ripening in early June. Not a peach fan? The farm also grows blueberries and blackberries, and has a country market store with fresh made cider, baked goods, and more!
Blue Vista Farm, Bayfield, WI
For a u-pick experience with a view, Blue Vista Farm, which overlooks Lake Superior, is an opportunity not to be missed. The farm focuses on sustainability and organic growing practices, so you know the fruit you’re picking is safe and grown with care. Raspberries are available for picking first, in early June, with blueberry and apple picking that follows.
