Keep the Holidays Merry and Bright

The holidays are often filled with a lot of hustle and bustle that can make it difficult to prioritize our physical and mental health. To help you slow down and focus on your own well-being, here are some tips for having a happy and healthy holiday.

Manage stress by planning ahead

One way to make the holidays as stress free as possible is to create a schedule for the weeks to come. This doesn’t have to be a detailed day-to-day schedule, but writing out all your responsibilities and plans for the seasons will give you a clear idea of your upcoming commitments. This plan will help you better mentally prepare for the holidays since you know what to expect and when.

Keep close to your usual routine

Even though the holiday season can disrupt our usual schedules, it’s important to try to stick as close to a normal routine as possible. We get used to our routines, which means big changes can disrupt our physical and mental health and make us feel more stressed this time of year. So if you exercise every morning or go to bed at a certain time, continue to do so on your holiday break. Sticking close to your usual routine will bring consistency to a stressful season and help you enjoy the time spent with family and friends.

Live in the moment

It’s easy to get caught up in the world of social media, but you should limit your time spent scrolling during the holidays so you can stay present and be in the moment with your loved ones. Even just small adjustments to your phone habits, such as leaving it in a different room during dinner or turning it off while you’re out with friends, can have a huge impact on your well-being.

Take some time for yourself

Whether you’re traveling to see family or are hosting friends, it’s important to take some time for yourself amidst all your commitments. Be intentional with your alone time, opting to go for a walk, reading a book for thirty minutes, getting a facial, or even taking an afternoon nap. You may feel guilty doing so, but taking some time away will help you feel rejuvenated and less stressed. It can make the season overall more enjoyable for both you and your loved ones.

The holidays are all about expressing gratitude and love. Show yourself some appreciation by taking care of yourself this season.
