Finding a Pet Friendly Neighborhood

When it comes to looking for a safe environment for your family, that includes your furry friends as well! Here are some tips to keep in mind to make sure your neighborhood is perfect for your pets!

Proximity to a vet

Before you settle down in the home of your dreams, it’s important to make sure that any amenities your pets may need are readily available–a vet being one of them. In an emergency situation, the last thing you want to be is far away for medical care. Check out local veterinary facilities to ensure you like the practice and feel comfortable with the distance from your potential home. It’s also important to have a food distributor and/or a groomer close by as well.

Pet friendly shops

Look out for signs in stores that say Pets Allowed, restaurants that leave water bowls outside, or shops that have treats at the register. Noticing small gestures that benefit animals in the community is a good sign you are in an area that you and your pets are openly invited to be a part of.

Sidewalks and parks

Even if you are looking at a home with a decent sized property, it is always nice to have a safe space available for walks beyond your yard. If sidewalks are not an available option, you can always look into parks in close proximity to your home where you can walk your pet freely.

Other furry friends

When visiting neighborhoods that interest you, look around for other animals–do you notice a friendly community where pet owners and animals interact frequently? This is an easy indicator to see if your lifestyle will mesh well with the community. Talk to locals in the community and get a feel for how people and animals interact before settling down.

Keep these tips in mind so that you and your pets have an effortless transition into your new community.
