The Most Ideal Travel Destinations for November
November is that sweet spot before winter and the holiday bustle—a time to reflect on what you’re most grateful for and being around the people you cherish. This month can also be an ideal time to go to those travel destinations you’ve been eyeing.
Before the airports become overcrowded and the roads get jammed, pick out one of these spots and start planning your perfect fall vacation.
International
Morocco
Morocco is a destination to save for fall—when the sun isn’t beating down on you all day and making your stroll through the souk an exhausting affair. In November in particular, the weather is blissful and the atmosphere ideal. Make sure to also head to the Moroccan coast, where you can enjoy freshly caught fish, local boutiques, and the premier surfing scene.
Greece
Early November is ideal for heading to this popular island destination due to numerous deals on hotels and the tourist season winding down. Take advantage of visiting outside of the bustling summer months and make visits to the staple sites. Be sure to island hop, where you can stroll through olive trees during the height of the harvest season and hike the trails lining the coast.
Mexico
If you choose to visit Mexico in early November, you may catch the tail end of some Day of the Dead festivities. This holiday is widely celebrated throughout Mexico, but Oaxaca is a notable location for its late-night carnival and cemetery vigils. Another noteworthy spot for this annual tradition is Mixquic, a section of Mexico City with street stalls lining the town and a procession to end the night.
Paris
Nothing beats an international travel destination with low airfare options. This time of year is ideal for Paris if you want to travel abroad without breaking the bank. Although Audrey Hepburn claims “Paris is always a good idea”, consider making that good idea come alive before Thanksgiving. Nothing beats the fall foliage surrounding the Champs-Élysées as you stroll down the streets with a croissant in one hand and a café au lait in the other. Christmas markets are also beginning to pop up in November, making finding those one-of-a-kind gifts for family and friends back home easy and affordable.
USA
Texas
For the chili fans of the world, consider heading down to Texas the first week of November for the Terlingua International Chili Championship to eat your heart out with bowls upon bowls of chili. The foliage is also pristine this time of year, so be sure to make room in your schedule for national parks—specifically the Lost Maples State Natural Area—which is known for the abundance of maples lining the hiking trails.
New York City
If you’re in the mood for a jam-packed vacation, consider heading to the Big Apple. Toughing the crowd for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade isn’t for the faint of heart, but worth it if you want a Thanksgiving morning to remember. Seeing the Rockettes at the Radio City Music Hall is another staple for your November New York adventure. Top it off with holiday window shopping (or actual shopping) down Fifth Avenue for a trip worth boasting about.
San Diego
After the summer winds down and the temperatures drop a bit, look into heading to California for a November getaway. Stroll along the beaches at La Jolla for a leisurely day in the sun, and finish the day with Mexican food at one of the many surrounding drool-worthy spots. Maybe even take up surfing as your vacation hobby, but only after spending an afternoon at the famous San Diego Zoo.
Wyoming
As with many destinations, summer is the height of tourist season for traveling. However, this is especially true for Yellowstone National Park, where the hotter months can get particularly crowded. When booking your Wyoming vacation, consider November for a memorable vacation that includes a day at the national park, a bison burger at one of the many restaurants in Jackson Hole, and a horseback riding adventure through the mountains. This is also when winter begins to creep up on some parts of the state, making winter activities like dog sledding and snow tubing a must-try.
