Everyone gets those cravings they can’t resist. But before you indulge on the standard junk foods, take a look at what those cravings actually mean, along with a few healthy snack alternatives.
When you crave sweets.
Your body needs chromium, carbon, phosphorus, or sulfur. So instead of bingeing on sweets, reach for chicken or beef, eggs, fish, grapes, or cranberries for a healthier alternative that will not only save your waistline, but also your teeth.
When you crave carbs.
Your body needs meat, fish, nuts, beans, or chia seeds. Get a healthy dose of fats and omega-3 fatty acids to combat those carb cravings.
When you crave chocolate.
Your body really needs magnesium. Instead, reach for nuts, seeds (such as chia or sunflower seeds), legumes, or fruits. While dark chocolate does have its health benefits, the suggested alternatives are more reasonable choices.
When you crave coffee.
Your body needs phosphate, sulfur, or iron. Stick to your diet by choosing nuts, legumes, garlic, black cherries, onions, or red peppers. While these suggestions may seem to contrast your craving, they’ll give your body what it needs to keep humming along naturally.
