You can’t have a party without cake—but if you’re throwing an aloha-themed bash, you’ll need a cake that is as fun and beautiful as the Hawaiian Islands!
Impress all your luau guests with this pink pineapple cake topped with—you guessed it—a real pineapple stem!
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Spray three 8-inch cake pans with nonstick cooking spray, and lightly dust with flour. Set aside.
- Prepare the cake batter by combining the mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat on medium for about 2 minutes, and then distribute the batter evenly between three small, round cake pans.
- Bake as directed on the box. In the meantime, pour the containers of vanilla icing into a mixing bowl, and add in four drops of red food coloring. Mix the icing until it’s pink. Spoon some of the icing into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- When the cakes have finished baking and cooling, place a small circle of icing onto a cake serving tray to secure the cake, and place one of the cakes in the center. Ice the top of the cake, and place a second cake on top. Repeat these steps with the third cake.
- Secure the stack of cakes by placing one hand on top, and, using a serrated bread knife, cut the cake into a pineapple shape by shaving off the edges and top. Use a small spatula to fully ice the cake.
- With the piping bag and star tip, go around the cake to create the pineapple’s “rough” skin.
- Cut the top off of a fresh pineapple, and place in the center of the top of the cake.
